New ICT-initiative in the Centrope region

The project „Centrope ICT Technology Transfer [CITT] triggers challenges in the ICT sector and aims at improving the technology transfer between the business and research communities within the Centrope region. The project has been initiated by the Vienna IT Enterprises Platform of the Vienna Business Agency and is co-financed within the Seventh Framework Programme.

The project’s background are several key elements in the area of research driven sectors which weaken a knowledge based economy:

  • Lack of relevant information and awareness on the side of policy makers limits their commitment and engagement to implement new instruments
  • Centralised systems which often do not reflect regional aspects
  • Barriers in the interaction between the business and research communities
Centrope partners from bordering regions of the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia search within the project for solutions in order to diminish the blockades in technology transfer.
Simultaneously, the project will identify relevant players in the ICT industry and R&D and will connect these communities. Mentoring and coaching as well as a knowledge based database will accompany the activities within the project.

A strategy for a cross-border ICT network/cluster will be created which will provide support for a dynamic development of this region in the future. Experience in the Centrope region has shown that cross-border co-operation provides an ideal impulse for further development of the region itself and lead to further strengthening of its position in a global economy. Therefore, the creation of such a network is of high importance.
